Education Officer

Located in Pearcedale, Victoria on the Mornington Peninsula, Moonlit Sanctuary is a privately owned and award-winning wildlife sanctuary dedicated to the conservation of Australian wildlife and their habitats. Moonlit Sanctuary is a favourite destination to interact
with Aussie animals through encounters, educational presentations and live shows.

The role
Moonlit Sanctuary is currently seeking a casual environmental educator to join the Education team at Moonlit Sanctuary.

Education Officers bring their experience of developing and facilitating student-centred learning experiences to promote transformative learning. Skills in collaboration and communication with internal and external stakeholders are essential to this role, as is the ability and drive to facilitate excursions and teach learners of all year levels: Kinder; Primary; and Secondary.

Excursions support students’ love of Australian wildlife and ecosystems, understanding of environmental issues and their role as eco-citizens. Our approach is interdisciplinary; with a focus on Biological Sciences, and Sustainability.

What you bring

  • A passion for wildlife, the environment and environmental education
  • An ability to engage with K-12 students/teachers and the flexibility to facilitate age-appropriate teaching practices
  • Demonstrated teaching practice and knowledge of environmental education, sustainability and/or conservation education
  • An ability to work cohesively in a team and also independently
  • Confidence in managing student behaviour
  • An interest in learning how to handle reptiles, including pythons
  • Working with Children Check or VIT registration
  • Flexibility to work on weekdays and during school holidays
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain (Moonlit Sanctuary to facilitate)

The role is casual with seasonal variability in hours. Periods of work are during school terms, mid-year school holidays, and summer holidays after New Year’s Day. Our busiest periods are from April – December.

Typical Term shifts are 9:30am – 1:30pm, between 2-3 days a week. Typical holiday shifts are 8:15am – 2:30pm between 2-3 days a week.
