The Best Place to See Kangaroos in Melbourne

Moonlit Sanctuary is one of the best places to see kangaroos and wallabies in Melbourne as you can hand-feed free-roaming kangaroos and wallabies in our Wallaby Walk.

Purchase a container of animal food at the ticket box  and you can hand-feed the kangaroos, wallabies and pademelons. Our macropods are very friendly and will gently nibble at the food from your hand.

We have around 60 individuals and six species of kangaroos and wallabies at Moonit; from small Tamar wallabies to large Eastern greys and Kangaroo Island Kangaroos.

We recommend one container of animal food per two guests.

Kangaroos and wallabies are more interested in eating in the morning and later in the afternoon.

Please be aware that on extremely hot days, just like us, the animals can be a bit sleepy and not feel very hungry. Also on busy days, there is the possibility that they may already have full stomachs and need a break to digest.

Our kangaroos and wallabies are very friendly and may approach you if you offer them food.

You may pat them but they prefer not to be touched on their heads but enjoy a gentle stroke on their backs.

We ask that you respect their wishes if they choose not to come to you and don’t follow them behind the barrriers of the Wallaby Walk.

It is important not to touch young joeys that are still in their mother’s pouch.
