Working together to care for Country

At Moonlit Sanctuary, we recognise that the Traditional Custodians of the land have cared for Australia’s unique landscapes, plants and animals for tens of thousands of years. We are committed to building meaningful partnerships with First Nations communities and to respect, celebrate and learn from this enduring knowledge.

By working together, we aim to strengthen conservation outcomes, create opportunities for cultural learning and provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the connection between Country, culture and wildlife. These partnerships are founded on collaboration, respect and a shared commitment to caring for the natural environment.

Willum Warrain

Moonlit Sanctuary is also proud to be working with Willum Warrain, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Association based on the Mornington Peninsula dedicated to strengthening culture, community and connection.

Willum Warrain has contributed to the development of the Bush Food Garden, helping ensure the space respectfully represents local cultural knowledge and highlights the importance of native plants as sources of food, medicine and materials. Their involvement enriches the visitor experience by providing authentic local perspectives and reinforcing the ongoing connection between First Nations People and Country.

Looking Ahead

These partnerships reflect Moonlit Sanctuary’s commitment to conservation that is collaborative, inclusive and grounded in respect for Country. As our relationships continue to grow, we look forward to creating more opportunities for visitors to learn from First Nations knowledge, understand the importance of caring for Australia’s unique environments, and recognise the enduring connection between culture, wildlife and the landscapes we all share.
