Regent Parrot

Polytelis anthopeplus

CONSERVATION STATUS

Vulnerable

Regent Parrots are medium-sized birds known for their bright colours and distinctive red bill.
Males are golden-yellow with a dark green back, blue-black flight feathers, a yellow wing patch, and a red wing bar. Females and juveniles have similar patterns but are greener in colour.

WHAT THEY EAT

Regent parrots feed on seeds, buds, flowers, and occasionally insect larvae. Male flocks have been known to travel over 12 km to gather food and return to feed their chicks.

BREEDING

Regent parrots nest in the hollows of large gums, and the female will lay 4-6 eggs. The male will
feed the female whilst she is incubating and then help rear the chicks once they hatch.
