Yellow-bellied Glider

Petaurus australis

CONSERVATION STATUS

Vulnerable

Australia’s second largest glider is found in the mountain forests of Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Loss of habitat has seen its numbers decline 30% in recent years.

This species has proven difficult to breed in captivity and Moonlit Sanctuary is working to change that in case a breeding program is needed in the future. We were rewarded with our first birth late 2018 with twins; a rarity, and an achievement that was repeated in 2020.

You can see yellow-bellied gliders on evening tours.
